Grand Theft Auto VI, the most anticipated video game in years, will be released on 19 November 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
It is the first new entry in Rockstar Games’ crime series since GTA V in 2013, and it takes players back to Vice City, the series’ version of Miami. Thirteen years separate the two games, the longest gap in the series’ history.
Here is what Rockstar has confirmed about the launch, what the game costs, where you can play it and how to watch the official trailers.

When is the GTA 6 release date?
GTA 6 comes out on Thursday 19 November 2026. Rockstar has not yet said what time the game will unlock in each region, although digital pre-orders can be downloaded in advance from 12 November so they are ready to play on the day.
The date has moved twice. When Rockstar revealed the game in December 2023 it promised a 2025 release. In May 2025 the studio pushed it back to 26 May 2026, and in November 2025 it was delayed again, this time to November, with Rockstar saying it needed the extra months to finish the game to the standard players expected.
There has been no sign of a third delay. Physical copies are due in shops on 12 November, a week before launch, and Sony has timed a Japan-only Midnight Black PS5 to go on sale on the same day as the game.
How much does GTA 6 cost?
The Standard Edition costs $79.99 in the US and £69.99 in the UK, according to Rockstar’s pre-order announcement in June. That is $10 more than the usual price of a new console game, and it puts GTA 6 at the top end of what console games cost.
An Ultimate Edition costs $99.99 in the US. It adds extra vehicles, weapons, clothing and other in-game items linked to Jason and Lucia’s story, and it is sold as a digital download only.
Anyone who pre-orders or buys the game before 20 November gets the Vintage Vice City Pack, which includes a classic car, and digital pre-orders also come with one free month of GTA+, Rockstar’s subscription service. Prices in euros and other currencies vary by store and country.
The physical version on disc contains a download code in the box rather than the full game, so buyers of the boxed copy will still need an internet connection to install it.
Can you pre-order GTA 6?
Yes. Pre-orders opened on 25 June 2026 and the game is available to order from the PlayStation Store, the Microsoft Store, the Rockstar Games Store and major retailers around the world. Full details are on Rockstar’s official GTA VI website.
Which consoles can play GTA 6?
GTA 6 will launch on PS5 and on Xbox Series X and Series S. The game will not come to the older PS4 or Xbox One, so players on those machines will need to upgrade.
On PlayStation it is labelled as enhanced for the PS5 Pro, but it runs on the standard console too. The launch trailer released in October was captured entirely on a base PS5, which Rockstar described as “solely in-game footage recorded on a PS5”.
Sony has a marketing deal with Rockstar, which is why PlayStation branding appears in the trailers, but the game is not a PlayStation exclusive and Xbox owners can play it from day one. It is not included in Xbox Game Pass.
Is GTA 6 coming to PC?
Not at launch. Rockstar has not announced a PC version or given a date for one, although one is widely expected to follow.
That would match the studio’s past habits. GTA V reached PC in 2015, about 19 months after it first came out on consoles, and Red Dead Redemption 2 followed a year after its console release.
What is GTA 6 about?
The game is set in the state of Leonida, Rockstar’s take on modern Florida, with Vice City at its heart. It follows Jason and Lucia, a couple who are drawn into a criminal conspiracy across the state after what should have been an easy job goes wrong.
Lucia is the first female lead in a main Grand Theft Auto game since the series moved to 3D in 2001. Players can switch between Jason and Lucia, a feature that builds on the three-character system used in GTA V.
At launch GTA 6 is a single-player game. Rockstar is expected to add an online mode later, as it did with GTA Online in 2013, but it has not said when.
Watch the official GTA 6 trailers
Rockstar has released four official videos for the game, all on its YouTube channel. The most recent is the launch trailer, released on 15 October 2026. It lasts about 90 seconds and is set to “Flower in a Hurricane”, a new song by the French duo Justice featuring Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. Justice are also writing the game’s original score.
The longest look at the game so far is Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, a 26-minute gameplay video shown first on Netflix on 27 August 2026 before it was posted on YouTube later the same day. It shows missions, the new combat system and everyday life around Vice City, from scooter rides to fan-boat trips through the swamps.
The first trailer, released in December 2023, broke YouTube records for the most views of a non-music video in its first 24 hours, and the second trailer followed in May 2025.
The Grand Theft Auto games so far
The series began in 1997 as a top-down game made by DMA Design, the Scottish studio that later became Rockstar North. It moved into 3D with GTA III in 2001, and that game, together with Vice City and San Andreas, turned the series into one of the biggest names in entertainment.
| Game | Year | Setting |
| Grand Theft Auto | 1997 | Liberty City, Vice City and San Andreas |
| Grand Theft Auto: London 1969 | 1999 | London |
| Grand Theft Auto 2 | 1999 | Anywhere City |
| Grand Theft Auto III | 2001 | Liberty City |
| Grand Theft Auto: Vice City | 2002 | Vice City |
| Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas | 2004 | San Andreas |
| Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories | 2005 | Liberty City |
| Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories | 2006 | Vice City |
| Grand Theft Auto IV | 2008 | Liberty City |
| Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars | 2009 | Liberty City |
| Grand Theft Auto V | 2013 | Los Santos and Blaine County |
| Grand Theft Auto VI | 2026 | Vice City and Leonida |
GTA IV also received two large expansions, The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony, in 2009, and remastered versions of GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas were released together in 2021 as The Trilogy.
GTA V remains the series’ biggest success. It has been released on three generations of consoles and on PC, and Take-Two says it has sold more than 230 million copies, which makes it one of the best-selling games ever made. Its online mode, GTA Online, is still updated more than a decade later.
GTA 6 is the first main game to return to Vice City since Vice City Stories in 2006, but this is a modern version of the city rather than the 1980s setting of the original.
