We’re looking for a tech-savvy writer in Malta to help build TechMonka from the ground up, on the site and on YouTube and social media.
Location: Remote, but you must live in Malta
Contract: Full-time, indefinite
Salary: Competitive fixed salary plus bonuses
Start date: As soon as Possible
About TechMonka
TechMonka is a new home for news, reviews and explainers on technology, gaming, artificial intelligence and gadgets, written for readers around the world. We are part of the MonkaVerse, a small family of brands that also includes CasiMonka and BetMonka.
We are at an early stage, and the person in this role will have a real say in what TechMonka covers, how it sounds and where it shows up online. Our aim is simple: clear, accurate and readable journalism about the technology people use every day.
The role
As Junior Editor you will write and edit stories for the site most days, and you will also help turn that reporting into short videos and posts for our YouTube and social channels. You will work closely with the editor and the wider MonkaVerse team, and you can expect plenty of support and feedback while you find your feet.
Your day-to-day work will include:
- Writing news stories, guides, explainers and reviews on tech, gaming and AI
- Keeping an eye on the news cycle and pitching stories quickly when something breaks
- Editing and fact-checking articles from freelance contributors
- Writing headlines, summaries and image captions that work well in search and on social media
- Planning, scripting and helping to produce short videos for YouTube, YouTube Shorts, TikTok and Instagram
- Running our social media accounts day to day and replying to readers
- Using basic analytics to see what readers enjoy and sharing ideas to grow our audience
About you
You love technology and you can’t help keeping up with it. You probably already know which phones are rumoured for next year, what the latest AI tools can and can’t do, and which games everyone is talking about. More importantly, you can explain all of that to someone who doesn’t follow it as closely as you.
We’d like you to have:
- Excellent written English, with a clear and natural style
- A strong interest in tech, gaming, AI and gadgets, and the confidence to use and test new products
- Good knowledge of YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and X, and an understanding of what makes content work on each
- Some experience making video, even if it was for your own channel, a university project or a hobby
- Care for accuracy and the habit of checking a claim before publishing it
- The discipline to work well from home and meet deadlines
It would be a bonus if you have some writing published online, a basic knowledge of SEO and WordPress, or experience with video editing apps like CapCut, Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve. A degree in journalism, media or communications is welcome but not essential, and we’re happy to hear from recent graduates.
Because this is a full-time role with an employment contract in Malta, you must live in Malta and have the right to work here.
What we offer
- A full-time contract and a very competitive salary, depending on experience
- Fully remote work with very flexible hours
- Your own byline and the chance to build a profile as a tech writer and presenter
- Training and mentoring from experienced editors
How to apply
